Atlanta Pride Celebrates AAPI Month

Atlanta Pride Celebrates AAPI Month

Georgia has an AAPI population of 495,467. Since 2000, that population has grown 138%. Many of those citizens also identify as LGBTQ+. The Atlanta Pride Committee recognizes the importance and diversity of this community, and we celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ AAPI brothers and sisters during AAPI Heritage Month.

Recent research has found greater rates of depression, suicidal thoughts, economic hardship, and discrimination within the AAPI LGBTQIA+ community, which is why it is so important that we hear from this community and find ways to offer them supportive resources. This month APC will introduce you to several local AAPI community members who offer their unique perspectives on being LGBTQ+ and AAPI in Metro-Atlanta. Check back with this space all month long, as we will post videos for you to meet some of your neighbors and hear their experiences in their own voices.
