Community Call to Action - SB 88, 140 & 141

Georgia lawmakers have wasted no time in advancing politically-motivated attacks against the local LGBTQ+ community, and they have a specific focus on targeting transgender and gender-nonconforming young people. We know that our vote is our voice - and it is critical that we as a community are educated about the attacks we are facing and that we voice our concerns to our elected officials.
Currently, Georgia Senators have filed the following bills:

  • Senate Bill (SB) 140 and 141: These two bills seek to block transgender youth from accessing gender-affirming care. We all want what's best for our kids, which is why it's so important for families to have access to health care that meets their needs and allows their kids to grow up healthy and safe. For transgender kids, this might include specialized health care, called gender-affirming care, that has been endorsed by pediatricians and proven to help mental health and wellbeing. Every major U.S. medical and mental health organization supports access to gender-affirming care for transgender young people and adults. Families deserve privacy and respect regarding personal health care decisions— decisions that should be left between families and medical providers - without political interference.
  • Senate Bill (SB) 88: This expansive censorship bill targets LGBTQ+ youth and educators. Georgia lawmakers have said SB 88 was authored to help educators, but we know it would only make their jobs harder and hurt Georgia students and families.

We would like to encourage you to learn more about what your elected officials are doing and to voice your concerns to them directly. For details on these individual bills and help contacting your elected official, we encourage you to visit our friends at Georgia Equality. Please share this information with your friends and family, and remind them that it takes action to be an ally.
