Grant Recipients Announced

Atlanta, Georgia. — Today the Atlanta Pride Committee (APC) announced their list of 2019 year-end grant recipients.

The Atlanta Pride Committee has once again renewed their commitment to community reinvestment by awarding grants to multiple non-profits. These grants provide assistance to organizations that support a variety of important causes throughout the year and improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people in the region.

The budget for this program has increased exponentially over the last several years and APC is proud to report that the year-end reinvestment budget for 2019 totaled $98,742 and supported a record,16 different organizations, bringing the 2019 reinvestment total to over $115,000!

Jamie Fergerson, APC Executive Director said of the effort, "This program is a priority for us. We want everyone to be aware that by supporting Atlanta Pride, you also support so many organizations within our community."

Alice Plant, Manager of Data & Impact Strategy at Teach for America said, "Through our APC Community Reinvestment Grant, we (Prism) will establish a cohort of community facilitators offering professional development for Atlanta educators to best support LGBTQ+ students."

Plant added, "The grant will also provide the opportunity for Prism leaders to attend TFA's [Teach for America] annual Brave Education Summit focused on professional development for LGBTQ+ educators and establish an emergency response fund supporting LGBTQ+ TFA educators in crisis."

Leanne Rubenstein, with Compassionate Atlanta noted, "Compassionate Atlanta, along with our partner SOJOURN, is grateful for this support to advance the wholeness of individuals with disabilities by creating spaces for their authentic expression."

Rubenstein continued, "Often people with disabilities are excluded from any conversations and decisions regarding their gender identity and sexuality. Our goal is to advance the greater community by along all people, regardless of ability, to find safe spaces to talk about gender and sexuality, find social networks and be part of the LGBTQ+ community."

Fergerson finished, "There is still so much work to be done, and in these times, the path to accomplish that work successfully can be daunting. However, I am completely confident that by lifting each other up and supporting one another, we can and will move ever closer to our goal of justice and equality for all. I am keenly aware of the privilege of my position and grateful to have a voice to lead and to be on this journey with those in all of these extraordinary organizations and so many others throughout our beloved community."

APC has committed to continue expanding their education and social justice programming in 2020. The APC will continue to lend their support to those working to uplift the most vulnerable members of Atlanta's LGBTQ+ community.
