In the predawn hours of June 28, 1969, the Stonewall Inn was full to the rafters when it was raided by police. The bar was raided often, and patrons typically cooperated. This time they resisted. For six days the people rioted and police retaliated, brutally. The riots in NYC incited LGBTQ rights movements across the United States and abroad. The Stonewall Riots became the foundation of our modern day liberation movement.
50 years later, on June 29, 2019, Dykes on Bikes® Atlanta, in partnership with Atlanta Pride Committee and Femme Mafia Atlanta, will pay homage to the past, present, and future of the LGBTQ movement that erupted that night.
Scheduled in conjunction with the Stonewall 50 and World Pride celebrations in New York, there will be no shortage of things to do on this day – we’ve got you covered!
